Focus on health literacy to improve safety and quality

Practical advice for health services and professionals

The Canberra Health Literacy Network ran its first webinar for 2021 on the 26th February.  It featured Herbert Down, Director – Partnering with Consumers, Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.  The webinar provided an overview of health literacy and how it links to the National Safety and Quality Standards and gave some practical examples of how services can improve their response to health literacy

You can find a recording of the event on YouTube here, and a copy of the slides here.

The webinar mentions a number of health literacy resources produced by the Commission, including the National Statement on Health Literacy, and summaries for consumers, clinicians and health services.  You can find the full range of resources on the Commission’s website here.

Herbert also mentioned tracking down some research on the impact of health literacy initiatives, such as Teach Back, on appointment times.  We will add this information to this page once it is available.

We would also love it if you could complete a quick evaluation of the event if you attended or after you have watched the video. Your answers will help us to improve future events.
