Choosing Wisely Week: 22–28 March 2021
Choosing Wisely Australia brings together health professionals and consumers in a national conversation about unnecessary health care.
The Choosing Wisely Australia initiative is helping health care providers and consumers to start important conversations about unnecessary and sometimes harmful tests, treatments and procedures. Choosing Wisely Week (22-28 March) is a great opportunity for us all to promote the key messages of the Choosing Wisely initiative.
It aims to help consumers make informed decisions that suit their own preferences and personal circumstances in partnership with their healthcare professionals. Choosing Wisely is challenging the idea that ‘more is always better’. The right choice should be based on the best available evidence and discussion between consumers, carers and the healthcare team.
Choosing Wisely encourages people to use these 5 questions to make sure they end up with the right amount of care — not too much and not too little. It’s important patients and their families and carers can feel comfortable asking questions of their healthcare providers.
